STUDENT ACTIVITIES

Students at RMS have an opportunity to participate in local, state and national programs such as the National Geographic Bee, LEGO League, Destination Imagination, Math Counts and Spelling Bees. They also enjoy extra-curricular activities like chess club and chorus.

Rocky Mountain School provides numerous opportunities for students to be involved in the life of the school and to develop leadership skills.  Two of those opportunities are highlighted here.

Student Council
The student council is made up of elected representatives from each classroom plus a sergeant-at-arms. The student council identifies school wide community service projects, organizes school spirit activities and provides feedback and recommendations for school policy. The student council meets weekly and is sponsored by Master Teacher Lee Beckstromm.

Student Ambassadors
The student ambassador program provides student hosts for potential RMS students during her/his two or three day visit to RMS.  The student ambassadors are there to smooth the transition for visiting students – eating lunch with them, making sure the visitor has someone to play with at recess, explaining the rules of conduct and being sure the visitor knows the fundamentals – like where the bathroom is located!  The student ambassadors are recruited and trained by Lisa Michael, the admissions coordinator.

There are two opportunities for RMS students and those from the larger community to participate in enrichment programs.

After-School Programs
Every school year there are a variety of after-school classes that are available to RMS students and school-age children from the community.  These fee-based programs are offered by other organizations and vary by semester. Current opportunities can be found on this site under News and Events – After School Programs

Summer Programs
During the summer months, RMS offers the physical facility to other programs that operate week-long summer camps. These fee based programs have included art, theater, math, creative writing and science camps. The summer programs are posted on this site under News and Events – Summer Programs by mid February for the following summer.
