MISSION

We challenge, support, and inspire gifted individuals!

These seven words embody those characteristics that we value and for which we strive at Rocky Mountain School:

"WE" Community is one of the most important aspects of RMS. For adults, as well as children, the sense of 'belonging', feeling safe and comfortable, and being able to connect in a meaningful way within our community is highly valued. This extends beyond our students and families to the larger community to whom we offer education, referral and other services. "We" embodies the spirit of our community.

"CHALLENGE" The importance of providing appropriate challenge in all areas as students develop into multi-dimensional human beings can not be understated.

"SUPPORT" The fabric of gifted individuals -- both children and adults -- is woven with contradictory colors, uneven edges, expanding and contracting dimensions of thickness and length and textures that are at once soft, silky, smooth, rough and callous. Embracing all of that while striving to define itself is an important aspect of Rocky Mountain School.

"INSPIRE" The spark of inquisitiveness, the love of learning, the confidence and the passions that we recognize in our children and in ourselves must be fanned or, in some cases, rekindled. This is a piece of what we do.

"GIFTED" If we don't recognize, acknowledge, embrace and claim it for ourselves and our children, how can we expect others to do so?

"INDIVIDUALS" Children and adults, each unique, are who we serve.

Guiding Principles

Six principles guide and support the development and implementation of programs at Rocky Mountain School:

We seek to:

Prepare gifted children to assume their place as active, contributing members of an interdependent, complex, global community.

Promote the interconnection of the whole child -- intellectual, physical, social, personal, spiritual and ethical.

Extend the classroom to the community and promote meaningful interaction between students and their environments.

Help students develop life long learning skills.

Provide an individualized learning environment that enables gifted children to reach their full potential.

Provide support and education for families of gifted children.
