Annette is the school counselor. With
a deep understanding of the social and emotional issues
common among gifted people, she helps students and faculty
when communication or relationship difficulties interfere
with a student's education. She works with the students
in their classrooms to strengthen their social and emotional
development and to help them learn effective communication
skills, assertiveness and appropriate ways to express feelings.
Annette also runs a group for children from divorced families,
facilitates the adolescent gifted girls' group and three
parent support groups. Having written several articles
for journals and newsletters in the field of giftedness,
Annette has spoken at numerous national and local conferences
about the social and emotional issues faced by gifted families
and gifted girls. She has been affiliated with the Gifted
Development Center since 1996 and is training with Annemarie
Roeper to learn the Annemarie Roeper Method of Qualitative
Assessment of Giftedness model of assessing children's
development. Annette earned her M.A. in Clinical Psychology
(with an emphasis in marriage and family counseling) from
Pepperdine University.
