Summer Fantasy Writing, Art and Gaming Camp!

Learn creative writing techniques while exploring amazing fantasy worlds through role-playing games, story writing, movie critique, and fantasy/anime/science fiction art! For students between the ages of 7 – 15.
Instructors: Miriam Darnell, the author of Fantastic Fiction, has been a teacher and private mentor for twice exceptional students for 22 years. She is the founder and director of Druidawn Creations, a fantasy publishing group for teens, and has 75 students currently enrolled in her private writing clubs that meet on weekends and after school. Getting kids excited to write is her highest goal in life. This will be her 8th year directing Summer Fantasy Camp. Cara Allen has a degree in fine arts, has written two novels, and has had her dragon paintings published in several books and on websites. She has taught art at The Brideun School, and has had numerous private students and small clubs of her own since 2005. Cara loves working with creative students, particularly ones lacking confidence. Her patient, kind, and playful personality make her a favorite teacher whenever she goes. This will be her third year co-teaching Summer Fantasy Camp.

Cost: $250.00 per week per child. $25.00 discount for registration before April 1st.
Children bring their own lunches.

Summer Chess Camps
For the improving chess player, from beginner to advanced.
Directed by Paul Szeligowski
The Camps: Students will be in groups based upon age and skill level. Topics covered (depending upon group level): rules, piece values and how they change, chess notation, opening principles, middlegames, endgame play, tactics and strategy.
Students will be able to play in a multi round chess tournament within their group and also take part in a simultaneous exhibition held at the end of each camp. Students should bring their own lunches, snacks and a chess set. All students will get a T-shirt, and completion certificate. Trophies and special prizes (multiple categories) will also be given out.
Instructors are all highly experienced players and teacher/coaches. Among the faculty for this summer are Steve Odendahl and Paul Szeligowski. Steve is an International Master and has played games with some of the worlds’ best players (he will be teaching at the June camp). Paul has taught at numerous summer camps, schools and offers private lessons. Among his students are two Colorado State Champions. He is author of numerous chess articles, including the original ones on the system now known as the Colorado Defense.
