Kid Crew
Who: Any RMS Student
Where: RMS
When: January 28th, total of 12 sessions
Times: 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Cost: $60 a session
Kid Crew is conducted by experienced and passionate speech and occupational therapists who care about students who are gifted, but struggle with forming close relationships and group identity. They use theory of multiple intelligences by Howard Gardner to validate the legitimacy that not everyone naturally learns how to relate to other people. Many students may miss nonverbal facial and body cues, have difficulty maintaining reciprocal conversations, as well as not realizing the impact their actions have on the social memories others have of them. Students who are motivated to form friendships, but who feel they just "can't get it right," are ideal candidates for this program.
Kid Crew is a weekly after-school program that teaches the underlying social rules and behaviors that exist in the dynamic system we call relationships. What is unique to Kid Crew is that, after the social rule is taught, the students then practice the skill in creative, recreational activities, such as film-making and solving mysteries. It is the goal of the Kid Crew creators that students will recognize for themselves that they are able to access more social opportunities at the conclusion of the program than they ever had in the past. Kid Crew divides into age groups when practicing the social skills. The age groups currently available are 10-12 year olds and 7-9 year olds.
