“I was thinking about reading a small ad in
the Daily Camera for a talk on gifted children. Little
did we know the kind of impact that evening would
have on our children’s lives, and on ours.
It has been such a great experience for our family
to be part of RMS the past 9 years."
- Parent of two RMS graduates
"My child can be a typical four-year old,
AND still learn to read and do ‘real’ math."
- A parent of a 4-year-old boy
"At Rocky Mountain School,
my daughter can learn at her own pace. She is challenged
every day. She's surrounded by other kids who love
to learn. She is safe and happy!"
- A parent of a 7-year-old girl
“We feel we have benefited from the emotional
support of the “school family”; parents
of other gifted children who help us realize we are
not alone in the sometimes challenging world of raising
a gifted child, and enthusiastic teachers who help
bring out the best in our child.”
- A parent of an 11 year old girl
"In three days, we had
a reborn child. Suddenly we had our bright-eyed,
inquisitive, motivated learner back."
- A parent of a 9-year-old boy
“It has been an almost
overwhelming financial struggle to send our profoundly
gifted son to RMS, but seeing the bright-eyed,
confident teenager he has become makes that struggle
utterly insignificant. RMS has provided a safe,
non-stressful environment that has allowed him
to be himself and to develop into a well-rounded,
independent young man with positive, supportive
friends.”
- A parent of a 13-year-old boy
"Since coming to RMS,
our daughter has rocketed into the world of reading.
We are scrambling to keep up with her! Several
times a week she says she loves school. It is music
to our ears."
- A parent of a 5-year-old girl
"It is great for our son
to be able to attend a school where it's okay to
be smart and where he doesn't feel like a nerd.
He can pursue his passion for learning without
feeling like an outcast. He fits in at RMS."
- A parent of an 8-year-old boy
"Rocky Mountain School
is a place where my children can be their ask-stumper-question
selves, their work-above-age-level, perfectionist,
move-around-energetic, and wonderfully individual
selves. They are very happy here."
- A parent of 6-year-old and 7-year-old students
"At Rocky Mountain School,
kids know they count - just the way they are."
- A parent of an 8-year-old student
“I just wanted to tell you how grateful we
are for our daughter’s placement at Rocky Mountain
School. She is blossoming and becoming a self-confident
kid once again. It is wonderful to see her be anxious
to get to school everyday…We wouldn’t
have placed her at RMS without your encouragement,
and we really appreciate your quick assessment of
her abilities. This has changed things for all of
us as a family. Thanks very, very much!
- Parents of an 8 year old student.
“After six different schools in two states,
including home schooling for a number of years, we
happily drove our son 52 miles – one-way – each
day to RMS! Despite a mid-year transfer, he was immediately
accepted by his peers, challenged by his instructors
and motivated to succeed. Thank you, RMS!
The culture
and atmosphere at Rocky Mountain School is one
of complete acceptance and safety; acceptance of
each child’s strengths
and weaknesses and a safe place to grow, physically,
emotionally and intellectually. Not only is each
child embraced by the staff, but by fellow students
as well. Acceleration, asynchronous development,
twice exceptional issues and other special needs
that many gifted students bring to the classroom
are not viewed as unwelcome challenges by the staff
or as oddities by the student body. They are simply
qualities that make each gifted child unique.
Following
just one week at his new school, my son exclaimed, “My brain feels better!” a
testament to the successful efforts of the school’s
mission: To inspire, challenge and motivate gifted
individuals.
As one of the few places
a student can find true intellectual peers, RMS
embraces acceleration, asynchrony and other unique
characteristics in gifted children. It is a culture
of approval and acceptance cultivated by the staff,
and embraced by the entire student body.”
